Privacy Policy

Last updated July 27, 2026

The Orange Glow Project supports families after the loss of a child. Much of what people share with us is personal, so we collect as little as we can, keep it protected, and give families control over what is public.

Information we collect

We collect only what we need to run our programs and this website.

  • Account information: your email address and a password, or a Google sign in, if you create an account to manage a Their Handprint page.
  • Page content: the name, dates, story, photos, and other details you choose to add to a page for your child.
  • Requests and messages: information you enter in the Request Support form, contact emails, or memories submitted to a family's page.
  • Basic technical information: pages viewed and general device or browser information, used to keep the site working and secure.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.

Photos and metadata

Photos often carry hidden information such as GPS coordinates, camera details, and timestamps. When you upload an image to Their Handprint, we strip that embedded metadata before the image is stored, so a photo taken at your home does not reveal your address.

Uploaded images are kept in private storage. They are served through our own website rather than a public file link, and images that belong to a page that is not published are only viewable by the family who owns the page and by our staff.

Who can see what

  • Draft pages are visible only to the family member who created them and to our staff.
  • A page becomes publicly viewable only after the family submits it and our staff reviews it.
  • Memories and messages submitted by others are never shown until the parent approves them.
  • Families choose which details, such as dates or location, appear publicly.
  • Individual child pages are marked so search engines do not index them.

How we use information

We use the information you give us to display the content you asked us to display, to respond to support requests, to review content for safety, to send messages you asked to receive, and to keep records required of a nonprofit organization.

Service providers

We use a small number of vendors to operate this site, including hosting, database and file storage, email delivery, and payment processing for donations. These providers may process information on our behalf and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes.

How long we keep information

Page content stays available for as long as the family wants it published. You can pause or request removal of your page at any time. When a page is deleted we remove its content and images from active systems, and routine backups age out over time. Donation and request records are kept as long as required for nonprofit recordkeeping.

Your choices

  • Export: families can download a copy of their page data and content from the family dashboard.
  • Edit or pause: you can change or unpublish your page yourself at any time.
  • Delete: you can ask us to permanently remove your page or your account.
  • Access: you can ask what information we hold about you.

To make a request, see our contact page for privacy concerns.

Children's information

Pages on Their Handprint are created by adults about a child who died, and only a parent or an authorized family member may create one. This site is not intended for use by children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information directly from children. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will remove it.

Cookies and analytics

We use cookies and similar storage that are necessary to keep you signed in and to keep the site secure. We may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand which pages are used. We do not use advertising trackers.

Security

Access to family content is restricted at the database level so that only the owning family and authorized staff can reach it. No system is perfect, so we also keep staff access limited and review it regularly. If we ever learn of a breach affecting your information, we will notify affected families.

Changes to this policy

If we make a meaningful change we will update the date at the top of this page and, when the change affects family content, notify page owners by email.
